Climbing Out of the Pain Free Zone

4/28/13

Description:Sunday Service2 Corinthians 6:1-10In this morning's message, we see that we are not meant to go through life without pain. Indeed, being a servant of Jesus Christ comes with sacrifice and suffering. As such, great faith is required for the Christian, for in the midst of suffering comes great joy. When you are taken out of your comfort zone, know that God is at work and that good things happen as He uses those circumstances to shape and mold you spiritually. In this morning's message, we learn from Paul's suffering that the Christian life involves work and that we are together servants of God and ambassadors of His message.Practical application to follow Christ:1. The Christian life is a life of SERVITUDE - of serving others (Romans 15)2. The Christian life is a life of SACRIFICE (Romans 12)3. The Christian life is a life of PERSONAL SELFLESSNESS (Philippians 2; 1 Peter 12)

Like Father, Like Son

4/21/13

Description:Sunday ServiceJohn 5:19-47In this lengthy discourse, the fact that Jesus in the Son of God is unmistakably asserted by His own self-testimony and undeniably confirmed by other corroborating witnesses. 1. The Unmistakable Assertion of Deity (vv. 19-30)NOTE: Jesus takes the witness stand to testify in His own defense and makes four claims that prove He is the Son of God. A. He shares God's work and will (vv. 19-20, 30)B. He shares God's power to save (vv. 21, 24-26)C. He shares God's authority to jusdge (vv. 22, 27-29) D. He shares God's honor (v. 23)2. The Undeniable Confirmation of Deity (vv. 31-47)NOTE: Jesus calls four other witnesses to the stand to testify on His behalf that He is the Son of God. A. The Forerunner (vv. 33-35)B. The Miraculous Works (v. 36)C. The Father Himself (vv. 37-38)D. Squaring Off With A Sacred Cow

4/14/13

Description:Sunday ServiceJohn 5:1-18By deliberately healing the invalid at the pool of Bethesda on the Sabbath, Jesus took on the "sacred cow" of Judaism and the religious leaders became hostile toward Him and began to harass Him and hasten their plan to kill Him.1. THE CURE (vv. 1-9)Jesus' command for the invalid man to "get up and walk" was a demonstration of God's sovereign, unconditional grace. The crippled man did not choose Christ, but Christ chose him.2. THE CONTROVERSY (vv. 10-16)Jesus chose to cure the invalid man on the day of the Sabbath, which was not permitted by the Parisees. The Pharisees had many rules and regulations, which even included carrying a mat. Jesus confronted the Pharisees for not caring about people. They cared more for their laws than the welfare of their people. This was a supreme example of religious legalism.3. THE CHARGE (vv. 17-18)The Pharisees accused Jesus of being a false prophet for violating the Sabbath. In response, Jesus makes Himself known as being equal to God. Therefore, His will superceded any man-made traditions or rituals. His work on the Sabbath was much more important because it involved saving the lost. Jesus' reference to God as "My Father", rather that 'our' Father, is what prompted the Jewish leaders to bring charges of blasphemy against Jesus and to plot His death.Praise God that you are saved by His sovereign grace rather than by trying to keep a bunch of legalistic rules and regulations. Thank Him for making it possible for you not to sin anymore through the death of His Son Jesus. Ask Him to enable you by the power of the Holy Spirit to mortify remaining sin in your life.
