1 Samuel 17
At times througout our lives we face giant obstacles. What do you do in the midst of such obstacles, when your back is against the wall or when you are terrified? At times like these, we can find great encouragement in the study of David and Goliath. But, the hero of this story is not David. The hero is the same as for all other stories in the Bible - our almighty God. The seventeenth chapter of 1 Samuel is really a story of God's almighty hand in delivering the Israelites from the hands of His enemy.
In tonight's message, Pastor Tyson teaches us 12 ways to conquer the giants in our lives based on the verses in 1 Samuel 17:
1. Do not listen to the voice of the Philistine. (vv. 1-11)
2. Do not be afraid of the enemy. (vv. 12-24)
3. Ask the right questions. (vv. 25-27)
4. Don't get involved in domestic disputes. (vv. 28-30)
5. Remember past victories. (vv. 31-37)
6. Don't wear other people's armor. (vv. 38-39)
7. Be prepared. (v. 40)
8. Speak with confidence, not with arrogance. (vv. 41-45)
9. Give glory to God. (vv. 46-47)
10. Run to the battle. (v. 48)
11. Strike it down. (v. 49-50)
12. Finish what you started (vv. 51-58)
The deliverance of God's people serves as an example of God's faithfulness. When we put our trust and faith in our almighty God, He is faithfull to deliver us from our trials and to help us endure them, just as He has been faithful to deliver the Israelites from their trials and to help them endure them over the centuries.
