Thankful To Be Alive
Ephesians 2:1-7
Believers in Christ have been rescued from total sinfulness and spiritual death because of the atoning work of a loving Shepherd. Apart from Christ, we would have remained dead in our sins - a condition for which we have no power in and of ourselves to escape. We are not dead in our sins because of sinful acts that have been committed, but because we are all born with a sinful nature (Romans 5:12).
We cannot truly appreciate the gift of God's grace if we do not understand the awfulness and hideousness and hopelessness of the unrepentent sinful state. The lost spiritual condition of man is unresponsive and we are totally incapable of seeking God unless He gives us the will to do so. Apart from God's grace, we are failures and rebels. We are dead to sin, dominated by sin, and doomed to hell.
On the occasion of this Thanksgiving, and in light of the condition from which we have been saved, let us give thanks to God for His inexpressible gift.
