God's Awful Wrath

October 22, 2014 Speaker: Ken Ramey Series: The Minor Prophets

Topic: Wrath Passage: Nahum 1:2–6

Sermon Summary

Nahum - God's Awful Wrath

The Minor Prophets may be the most neglected and least understood portion of God’s Word. They are the written record of twelve prophets God hand-picked to serve as His mouthpieces to both confront and console the northern kingdom (Israel) and the southern kingdom (Judah) along with surrounding Gentile nations (Assyria and Edom) during the Assyrian, Babylonian, and Medo-Persian Empires which spanned four centuries (800-400 B.C.) These twelve prophetic books are referred to as “minor” not because their message is less important than the five major prophets (i.e., Isaiah, Jeremiah, Lamentations, Ezekiel, Daniel) but because they are shorter in length. Before the time of Christ, to ensure that none of them got lost as a result of their brevity, they were grouped together in the Hebrew Bible to make one scroll simply called “The Twelve.” While written close to 3000 years ago, the powerful truths in this obscure section of Scripture are as relevant and as potentially life-changing today as they were then.
