The High Priestly Prayer - Pt. 1

March 29, 2015 Speaker: Ken Ramey Series: John

Topic: Prayer Passage: John 17:1–26

Sunday Service

John 17:1-26

The Climax of the Upper Room Discourse is Jesus’ high priestly prayer, which is considered by some to be the Holy of Holies of sacred Scripture. After equipping His disciples for what lie ahead, He entrusted them to God through this epic prayer that can be divided into THREE SECTIONS.

1. CHRIST PRAYS FOR HIMSELF (vv. 1-5)
Jesus was not being selfish or self-absorbed by praying for Himself first. Because He was totally consumed with glorifying God the Father, His prayers began with the desire that what He was about to do would be glorifying to God. He also prayed that His preparation would ensure the protection of His disciples after He departed to be with the Father.

2. CHRIST PRAYS FOR HIS DISCIPLES (vv. 6-19)

3. CHRIST PRAYS FOR ALL BELIEVERS (vv. 20-26)

Praise God that there is a glorified Man, the God-Man, Jesus Christ, serving as your Advocate before the throne of God in heaven. Express your longing for that day when you will be there with Him.
