The Reality Of Enoch

Genesis 5:21-24

Of the five facts about Enoch that are given in the Book of Genesis, perhaps the most important one is that he walked with God (v. 24). This is significant because we know that Enoch lived in times that were approaching the time of Noah. As such, these were wicked days just prior to God’s judgement by the Great Flood. The life of Enoch shows us that even in wicked times, we can still walk with the Lord.

Another aspect of Enoch’s reality is that it was by faith that he walked with God. Enoch’s faith was pleasing to God and he was rewarded by being taken up to be in God’s presence without experiencing death. This is significant because even though Enoch was a sinner, God chose to spare him from death. By walking with God, we will also be spared eternal death (spiritual death) and brought into His presence for eternity. Those who walk with the Lord through faith will experience the same reward as Enoch. Moreover, just as Enoch’s faith pleased God, it pleases God to walk with those who have a loving relationship with Him.

Bothers and sisters, our faith should be founded on a true belief of who God is and on a loving relationship with His Son, our Lord Jesus Christ. Praise God that He can find pleasure in us!
