Growing For God's Glory

November 6, 2016 Speaker: Ken Ramey Series: Philippians

Topic: Sanctification Passage: Philippians 1:9–11

Sunday Service

Philippians 1:9-11

Throughout the Bible, God’s people are likened to growing, thriving trees with strong roots, green leaves, many branches, much fruit and which are able to withstand the most adverse conditions. Trees symbolize the kind of strength and stability God intends us to have as we grow and mature spiritually, which enables us to endure all sorts of difficult circumstances and live long, fruitful, productive lives that bring great glory to God. In these verses, Paul shared FOUR PRAYER REQUESTS which are essential to our spiritual growth and maturity as Christians. Each of these requests is sequential; they each build on the foundation of the previous one. The progression of Paul’s prayer follows the progression of how God works in our lives to complete and perfect us. When love abounds in our lives, we develop discernment, which results in a life of integrity that is full of fruit which brings glory and honor to God.

1. ABOUNDING AFFECTION (v. 9)

2. DEVELOPING DISCERNMENT (v. 10a)

3. INCREASING INTEGRITY (v. 10b)

4. FLOURISHING FRUITFULNESS (v. 11)

Praise and thank God for His saving and sanctifying work in your life. Ask Him to continue to grow and mature you into the likeness of Christ so that your life will bring Him great honor and glory. Pray what Paul prayed for the believers in Thessalonica (cf. 1 Thessalonians 3:12-13).
