God's Case Against The Human Race

Topic: We sin because we are sinners Passage: Romans 3:9–18

Sunday Service

God’s Case Against The Human Race”
Romans 3:9-18

THEME: As bad as our world is and as evil as human beings can be, it is dumbfounding that most people believe that man by nature is basically good. According to modern philosophy and psychology, people are born in a neutral state and the environment we are raised in determines whether we develop into a good or bad person. However, the Bible teaches something radically different in regards to the nature of man. According to God’s Word, every part of every person is completely corrupted by sin. The reason people do bad things is because we are born bad; we have evil, wicked, sinful hearts (i.e., we’re rotten to the core). In other words, we are not sinners because we sin, we sin because we are sinners. What’s worse, there is nothing we can do in and of ourselves to change the way we are and if left to ourselves to change the way we are and if left to ourselves we will end up paying the consequences of our sin in hell for all eternity. Everyone apart from Christ is helplessly dominated by sin and hopelessly doomed to hell. That is what theologians refer to as “total depravity.” Here we have the most explicit description of the depravity of man found anywhere in Scripture. In his closing arguments in his case against mankind, Paul presented FOUR INDICTMENTS that serve as undeniable evidence that the entire human race is completely corrupted by sin and worthy of being condemned by God.

1. OUR WAYWARD HEARTS - Sin has corrupted our CHARACTER (vv. 10-12)

2. OUR WICKED MOUTHS - Sin has corrupted our CONVERSATION (vv. 13-14)

3. OUR WARLIKE WAYS - Sin has corrupted our CONDUCT (vv. 15-17)

4. OUR WRONG VIEWS - Sin has corrupted our CORE (v. 18)

Thank God for delivering you from bondage of sin. Ask Him to forgive you for not revering and honoring Him the way you should and for worshipping and serving yourself at times. Ask Him to help you have a greater appreciation for His sovereign grace that saved you and to have a greater desire to share with fellow sinners how they can escape sin’s control and condemnation.
