Revive Us, Oh Lord - Part 2

Selected Scriptures

THEME: It seems that few in conservative, evangelical churches like ours talk much about revival these days, except for periodic appeals from Christian leaders and organizations to pray for a revival in our nation in light of its moral decline. But apart from a “national” revival, the concept of revival has been misapplied by well-meaning traditional groups and hijacked by way-out pentecostal groups, and because of the negative connotations related to revival, we deem it safer to avoid the subject all together. But the Bible has a lot to say about revival which cannot and should not be ignored. In fact, revival is the dominant theme in both the Old and New Testaments. From the numerous kings of Israel and Judah to the seven churches in the book of Revelation, we see God constantly confronting the issues of spiritual backsliding and constantly providing spiritual awakening. The Scriptures are clear that God’s people are perpetually in need of revival. In order to understand what it is so we can experience it personally and corporately, let’s answer THREE QUESTIONS about revival.

1. WHAT IS THE MEANING OF REVIVAL?

2. WHAT ARE THE PREREQUISITES FOR REVIVAL?

3. WHAT ARE THE TRUE MARKS OF REVIVAL?

Than God for graciously, mercifully, and willingly reviving the hearts of His people whenever we are guilty of backsliding. Ask Him to expose and forgive any sins of commission or omission in your life. Ask Him to grant you a spiritual awakening in your life and in the life of our church for the glory and honor of His name.
