Unshackled

Romans 6:1-7

THEME:  The Bible says that every person is a slave to sin; we are all shackled by our sinful thoughts, desires, choices, and motives. But there is someone who can set us free from sin; that someone is God's Son, Jesus Christ. Jesus came down from heaven to live and die and rise again in our place so we can be both forgiven for and freed from our life of sin. When God saves us, we are not just delivered from the penalty of sin, but we are also delivered from the power of sin. In other words, God not only forensically considers us righteous in His eyes, (i.e., justification), but He also practically conforms us to His righteousness in our everyday lives (i.e., sanctification). What Paul says in Romans 6:1-7 serves as the foundation of God's progressive work of sanctification in the life of every true believer. What makes it possible for us to sin less and become more and more like Christ is that we are no longer slaves to sin. And our liberation from sin is the result of our identification with Christ in His death, burial, and resurrection which occurs when we get saved and is best illustrated when we get baptized.

Praise God that you are no longer a slave to sin, ask Him to forgive you for still choosing to sin even though you do not have to sin anymore. Ask Him to give you a greater burden and bldness to share the gospel with others you know whose heart and mind and life are still shackled to sin.
