Meaning In Mourning
John 11:1-46
THEME: The world is cursed by sin and controlled by Satan and that is why we experience so much pain and suffering and mourning and heartache in our lives. The good news, actually the best news ever, is that God Himself came to earth in human form and died and rose again to deliver us from the curse of sin, death and the devil. When Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead, He was providing a preview of His own death and resurrection by which He would conquer these great enemies of our soul. Jesus performed this particular miracle not only to stimulate faith in those who had yet to believe in Him, but also to strengthen the faith of those who already believed in Him. Growing stronger in our faith oftentimes requires going through pain and suffering and that is what we see happening in thi passage. May it serve to remind us that there is meaning in our mourning.
1. THE FAITH OF THE STUDENTS (vv. 1-16)
2. THE FAITH OF THE SISTERS (vv. 17-37)
3. THE FAITH OF THE SPECTATORS (vv. 38-46)
Praise God that since Christ conquered sin, death, and hell, you will never have to experience the "sting of death" (i Corinthians 15:54-55). Pray for those you know who are experiencing pain and sorrow. Ask God to give you opportunities to show them the love of Christ and share with them how they can have the hope of heaven by placing their faith in His death and resurrection.
