The Wretch's War
Romans 7:14-25
THEME: At the end of Romans 7, Paul described his own personal struggle with surviving, remaining, or indwelling sin and declared his hope of eventual deiverance through Jesus Christ. Here in verses 14-25, Paul makes FOUR CONFESSIONS of a Christian who is in constant conflict with indwelling sin that should give us a more realistic expectation of life in Christ, deepen our dependance on Christ for victory over sin, and increase our longing for the day when we will be finally glorified and perfectly conformed to the sinless image of Christ.
1. FIRST CONFESSION (vv. 14-17)
2. SECOND CONFESSION (vv. 18-20)
3. THIRD CONFESSION (21-23)
4. FOURTH CONFESSION
Praise God that you are not alone in your struggle with sin. Ask God to forgive you for relying on your own determination and discipline to fight against indwelling sin. Ask Him to deepen your dependance on the saving work of Jesus Christ and the sanctifying work of the Holy Spirit in order to gain victory over sin and to increase your longing for that glorious day when you will never sin.
