20/20 Vision

January 19, 2020 Speaker: Ken Ramey Series: Stand Alone Sermons

Topic: Sanctification Passage: 1 Samuel 16:1–13

"Now the people of Beth-shemesh were reaping their wheat harvest in the valley, and they raised their eyes and saw the ark and were glad to see it." 1 Samuel 6:13

Things aren’t always the way they appear. Oftentimes we are guilty of misreading and misjudging situations and people because we make the majority of our judgments and decisions in life based on outward appearances. However, looks can be deceiving. As finite beings, we have a limited perspective on things compared to God. We rarely see things as they really are. But God does. That’s why we need to learn to see things the way God sees them. In this historical narrative where Samuel was recounting how God led him to anoint David as king, God reveals TWO PERSPECTIVES we all need to have that will help bring everything in our lives into proper focus and provide us with the comfort and confidence that comes from seeing life through God’s eyes.

1. LEARN TO LOOK AT PROBLEMS THROUGH GOD’S EYES (vv. 1-5)

     A. SAMUEL WAS SAD ABOUT WHAT HAD HAPPENED (v. 1)

     B. SAMUEL WAS SCARED ABOUT WHAT MIGHT HAPPEN (vv. 2-5)

2. LEARN TO LOOK AT PEOPLE THROUGH GOD’S EYES (vv. 6-13)

     A. SAMUEL WAS SUCKED IN BY HOW PEOPLE LOOKED (vv. 6-7a)

     B. SAMUEL WAS SCHOOLED IN HOW GOD LOOKS AT PEOPLE (vv. 7b-13)
