Embracing The Ambassador Lifestyle II
Main text: 2 Corinthians 5:17-21
Pastor Billy Blakey continues the series tonight on what it means to be Salt and Light. He points out that we have to be deliberate about sharing the gospel. Toward this end, a portion of this evening's time is being devoted to actual practice as we present the gospel message to each other.
Some practical things to remember:
Make sure we share the complete gospel. Not just God’s love, but also His wrath.
Be careful to explain any lingo that unbelievers don’t clearly understand, like “repent,” “sin,” “holy” and “redemption.”
There should be an order, so that the presentation is logical and easy to understand:
1. Start with God. There is only One of Him. He is Holy, Great, the Creator of all things (including us), and He desires a personal relationship with us.
2. Then move to sin. We are all separated from God because of our sin. No amount of good behavior or good deeds will make you holy before Him.
3. Then move to Jesus. He is God in the flesh. He suffered on the cross to pay the price of sin for each of us. Through Him we have forgiveness and stand in righteousness before God.
After presenting the good news, we should guide seekers to believe, to count the cost, and to repent.
You don’t have to be able to answer every question. Stick to the big picture and present the gospel clearly. Trust that the Holy Spirit will do the saving in spite of how well or how polished you think your presentation is.
Remember that unbelievers have a veil over their hearts that can only be removed through the power of the gospel message. This is the good news of the gospel of Christ (2 Corinthians 3:12)!
