On A Mission For God

THEME: Every church should have a clearly defined mission. The question is how should a church determine its mission? Naturally, it should study God's Word to find out what He says the mission of the church is. The best place to go in the Bible to discover God's mission for the church is what we call the Great Commission, which is included at the end of all four gospels. These are Jesus' famous last words in which He gave His disciples their marching orders for ministry and outlined the mission of the church. In the same way the Father sent His Son into the world to seek and save the lost, so the Son has sent His followers into teh world to finish the mission He began. It is not so much that the church has a mission from God but that the mission of God has a church; we are His instrument or agent in the world; we are a "sent" community, and therefore we must live like it. As members of Christ's church, we need to view ourselves as missionaries who have been sent by Christ to share the gospel where we live, work, shop, go to school, and hang out. In other words, rather than expecting unbelievers to show up at church, we need to go out and show and share Christ with them.

Thank God for the glorious privilege of knowing Christ and making Him known. Ask Him to embolden and empower you to share the gospel with others and that He would provide you daily opportunities to witness. Ask Him to bless Lakeside with more conversion growth rather than just transfer growth.
